I've created a design that I think might look good printed on a bedding or stationary collection?
What are the steps to taking that design, and getting it printed on anything from a lampshade, towel, soap dispenser, comforter, curtains etc. Likewise if I wanted to take that design and print it on anything else, like stationary, key chains, t-shirts etc. Cafe Press has been suggested but I would like to understand the process myself without a service like cafe press. On a more professional business/trade/manufacturing level preferably.
Design is a VERY difficult field to get into.
First, you should get the design copyrighted. The
simple way is to apply for a copyright protection, and
not open the response. You can list it as copyright
applied for.
Cafe Press is a good place to begin without spending
a fortune, BUT, the intellectual and artistic protection
is a little questionable.
You can have a number of items manufactured and
go through either the festival/flea market route, OR
you can take it through the trade show route. The Trade
Marts are not that much different from a flea market.
You rent display space, present the product as well as
possible, and try to convince the buyers to purchase
either fabricated/printed items or license the design.k
The dream would be to sell it to a producer or retailer
through a licensing agreement. Then they would be
responsible for the advertising, marketing, distribution
and sales.
Which ever path you choose, the most difficult and
expensive aspect is selling the product or idea.
Talk to buyers at retail sites, or if possible, visit trade
shows to talk with people to find out which buyers
would be interested in your type design. Dallas, Chicago,
Atlanta, New Orleans and New York are a few of the
cities with trade marts, and will provide you with schedules
for which shows are held, and when.
Small boutiques will buy some products on a consignment
basis, and that will provide display and experience.
Fabrics are easy to have printed with your design. A regular
fabric printing concern will provide you with fabric types
and recommendations for the printing process.
The other items you mentioned are usually handled
on a small scale by advertising specialty companies.
I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to register
you designs with the copyright office to protect your
intellectual property.
Good Luck to you.
Design a Girls Room Theme
When it comes to a girls room theme, the possibilities are only limited by your own creativity and imagination. Of course, the idea here is to re-create a theme in the best way possible without having to spend too much money. In this article, I would provide you with simple tips on how to decorate a girl’s room theme within your budget.
What’s the most common girl’s room theme today? That would be the princess theme. Disney princesses have long captured the minds and hearts of kids everywhere and obviously time hasn’t changed that. So how does one begin transforming a simple room into one fit for a princess? Start with the color. For full a full effect, for either pastel pink or pure white on the walls, however, I suggest white because it’s easier to work with. Now, you have to focus on the details of the room. Think of a make believe princess room and you will surely see lots of frilly and dainty stuff such as tulle, gauze and lace which are all affordable fabrics. First, take your gauze fabric and drape it above the bed to form a kind of canopy. This can be easily achieved with a few hooks and some fishing line. The lace can be added as trimming to the pillows and the bedding. This would definitely give ordinary childrens bedding that “royal” touch. As for the tulle, you can also use it’s as a trim in lieu of the lace or with the lace for maximum daintiness. After all, girly is the operative word here.
As for the furnishings, dark wood doesn’t really work well with the girly princess theme so it would help if you paint side tables, drawers, study tables and wardrobes a lighter color. You could also give it a more rustic feel, which is a common feature in princess themed rooms, by sanding it first before painting it using a single coat. Why a single coat? Because if you paint it as such the darker color of the wood would kind of peek through the light paint thus giving it an unfinished or cottage furniture feel. If you are quite handy with the brush, then you can also try painting a design on it. You could draw something simple like filigrees, flowers or butterflies to further add to the whimsical feel of the room. Remember that it’s all these little details that would bring the room together and not the expensive items that you buy.
Lastly, we have the lighting. The lighting you choose would definitely be an important of the whole room’s aesthetic so it has to match. You could opt for twin lampshades if you have two side tables in the room or you could just opt for a tall lamp which you can place on one side of the room. I also suggest adding fairy lights around the bed or somewhere around the room where it would frame a certain spot. These fairy lights would definitely bring even more charm to the room. Whichever lighting you opt to use, do not forget to make sure that they aren’t fire hazards. Safety always comes first. As you can see, this is just one theme out of the many others that you can choose from. After all, not every girl is a princess others want to become pirates or adventurers and their rooms must follow suit.
