We want a stroller for walks, any ideas about wheels?
My husband seems to think that the plastic kind of wheels on something like the Maclaren Quest Sport would suck on the side walk and streets. It seems absurd to me that a stroller would be for indoor use only. I want something small and zippy that doesn't cost a fortune. He thinks the wheels on the Bob revolution would be better on the streets, but those look like SUV tires to me and we're not going off-roading (at least not often enough to need huge tires). Think aquarium, zoo, our paved streets/sudewalks, etc. What kinds of small strollers do you like for your 5 month and up babies? Do those plastic wheels hold up after a time?
A good stroller is COMPLETELY worth it. The Quest Sport is a city stroller, so would work just fine on the pavement. However, the wheels won't be as shock absorbing as the other ones and will be a bumpy ride for your baby and harder to push for you. I like the Valco Baby stroller. It also adapts for a second child, should you decide to have one. I LOVE the Britax Vigour--it's fairly priced, has wheels that are between the SUV wheels and the the Quest Sport types of wheels. They're smaller, sleek, and really stylish. It's based off of the Bugaboo strollers which have basically taken over the world in popularity! It's a super smooth ride, maneuvers SO easily, and is durable. I'd go with one of those, plus they have them in really cute colors!
Umbrella Strollers
Umbrella strollers are included in the lightweight baby stroller category. This category includes all strollers under 15lbs that are sometimes referred to as umbrella strollers. Umbrella strollers are light weight strollers that have two U-shaped handles and fold in on themtselves. Some light weight strollers fold flat and do not fit the classification.
After your baby reaches toddler years, you may not always need or want to cart them around in your full size stroller, that is where the umbrella strollers come in. Small and compact, umbrella strollers are perfect for a quick trip to the store, or long trip where bringing your standard stroller isn't practical (ie air travel).
The best selling and top performing umbrella strollers to consider are:
Chicco C6: (MSRP $69.99) With front and rear suspension your little passenger will have a smooth ride and with shoulder strap and travel bag it's easy to take with you anywhere. At 11lbs it's one of the lightest in the umbrella strollers category.
EvenFlo X-Sport: (MSRP $49.99) Plenty of storage for you, but not the greatest seat for baby.
Graco IPO: (MSRP $89.99) Larger front swivel wheels add to maneuverability, but the price tag and 17lb weight makes it not as good as the Chicco C6.
Maclaren Quest Sport (MSRP $245.99) While very costly, this is the dream umbrella stroller! It weights only 11lbs but can hold a kid up to 55lbs. Loaded with great features and convenient options if you have the money it's a must have.
Umbrella strollers can't carry an infant car seat and should not be used with babies under six months unless they have a reclining seat. They are primary designed for toddlers and due to their size will not offer the same features and accessories as full size strollers. Some areas to consider when looking for an umbrella stroller are: * durability * comfort * convenient features or accessories * easily folded * safety
Umbrella strollers can cost around $10 to $800! Like anything else in this world, you get what you pay for. A good stroller can feel like it's worth its weight in gold after a long day.
Pick a umbrella stroller that is a nice mix between value and features and that fits your lifestyle in order to insure you get the most out of your purchase. You will most likely use this stroller a lot and will have it a very long time, so choose wisely and don't be afraid to spend a little money on it.
