New baby animals cooing at the Milwaukee County Zoo
It's baby time at the zoo, and there's a fresh crop making public debuts this spring. The cuddly creatures range from the very big to the very little, but they all have one thing in common. They grow up too fast.

Are Writers Real People?
Have you ever wondered about what type of person it takes to make a writer? What about a published author? Here is your chance to see what they are about and some interesting tidbits about them. You will see that they are average, everyday, normal people who have hopes and dreams, and have realized one of those dreams. They have become or are on their way to publishing books written by them. Meet the authors of Chippewa Publishing LLC and Lady Aibell Press.
Each author here has answered some basic questions about themselves/
Question 1. How long have you been writing?
Steven C. Levi: I have been writing since the 1960s. My first “publication” was in 1962.
Peter Joseph Swanson: Since [I was] a kid. I’d write monster stories—I’d write about how monsters were hiding in the barn on our farm.
Cindy Procter-King: I've been writing in one format or another since I was a child. The earliest I can remember actively taken an interest was about age eight, but I learned to read before I went to school and have always had a love affair with books. I've taken years off writing while working or getting an education, but I always comes back to it. I started with short stories as a teenager, then turned to poetry and children's picture books (none of which have been published, despite my attempts!) then began writing novels in my late twenties when I was pregnant with my first child. I've been writing pretty much non-stop since.
Brian Strasmann: I have been writing for fifteen years.
Jane Toombs: I was [first] published in 1973 and have been seriously writing ever since. Before then, I wrote in bits and pieces. Selling taught me to finish everything.
Question 2. What inspired you to write?
Steven C. Levi: I am passionate about expressing myself and writing is the medium I am best in.
Peter Joseph Swanson: Well, it’s just so fantastic. I love how wildly escapist it can go, or how honest and humanist it can get. It draws me. I can express things in a unique way in fiction that I can’t in visual art (and visa versa)!
Cindy Procter-King: I loved the Laura Ingalls Wilder books. My [third] grade teacher, Jean Brady, read to us from them nearly every day. My great-grandfather was a pioneer in our area, and until I attended school I grew up in a community so tiny there were no schools or stores or even a stop sign, but plenty of cousins and second cousins and grandparents and great-uncles—so I identified with Laura, especially because I also had an older sister who got to wear blue while I always had to wear pink! Those stories and that teacher definitely inspired me, and I haven't looked back.
Brian Strasmann: I'm afflicted. Writing is not a career it's a disease!
Jane Toombs: I write because I can't help it.
